Three engagements that illustrate what a senior SAP TRM consultant actually does — the problems, the thinking, and the outcomes.

Global Insurance Group
The challenge
A large Swiss insurance group needed to migrate its entire treasury operations onto SAP TRM as part of a global S/4HANA transformation. The scope covered foreign exchange, money market instruments, and a complex multi-entity hedge accounting model under IFRS 9 — all with zero tolerance for accounting errors at year-end.
My contribution
Led the end-to-end TRM design and configuration across FX Forwards, FX Swaps, and Money Market instruments. Defined the full hedge accounting ruleset in SAP, designed the posting logic for IFRS 9 effectiveness testing, and built the integration framework between Treasury and FI-GL. Delivered the Business Blueprint and all functional specifications, and supported UAT through go-live.
The outcome
The client went live on schedule with a fully automated hedge accounting cycle in SAP. The treasury team closed their first IFRS 9-compliant period-end without manual workarounds, and the solution has been running in production across multiple company codes ever since.

Major European Bank
The challenge
The treasury team at a major German bank included a former FX derivatives trader — someone who understood mark-to-market valuation at a level most treasury consultants rarely encounter. He had very precise expectations for how SAP should calculate MtM at month-end, and he was not prepared to accept approximations.
My contribution
Rather than working around his expectations, I engaged with him on his own terms — working through the theoretical basis of the MtM calculations, instrument by instrument, and demonstrating how SAP's standard Market Risk Analyzer produces results that are fully consistent with derivative pricing theory. The solution required no custom development: it was a matter of configuring the right yield curves, discount factors, and evaluation parameters within standard SAP TRM.
The outcome
The treasury specialist signed off on the MtM methodology — a significant moment, given his background. The client went live with full confidence in the accuracy of SAP's valuations, and the engagement established that standard SAP TRM, properly configured, can satisfy even the most technically demanding treasury users without a single line of custom code.
Mining · Canada · 2016–2017
North American S/4HANA Pioneer
The challenge
A major North American mining company was set to become the first organisation in North America to go live on SAP S/4HANA with a full Treasury and Risk Management implementation. The stakes were high: S/4HANA TRM was newly released, some features were still being stabilised, and the client's treasury requirements left no room for gaps in functionality.
My contribution
When certain S/4HANA TRM features did not perform as designed, I escalated directly to SAP's product development team. SAP sent their own developers to Canada to work alongside us on-site. I acted as the bridge between the client's business requirements and SAP's engineering team — translating treasury workflows into precise functional defects and driving resolution in real time, during the implementation itself.
The outcome
The client successfully went live as the first S/4HANA TRM implementation in North America. The issues identified and resolved during this engagement fed directly back into SAP's product roadmap — meaning the work done here improved the platform for every subsequent S/4HANA TRM customer worldwide.
